On Monday Sara and Alesha will be soldering for the first time! YAY! And with the supervision of Coleson and Caitlyn we know this will definately turn out a success. Also Caitlyn and Coleson will start building the control box/panel as well. And Mrs.P has just rescently informed us that the under water camera has arrived in the mail! YAY! So that is what our next project will be. We will keep updating our blog and let you know what is going on. Continue reading ...

Sorry. There was no science club on Wednesday. =( We all were super busy and weren't able to go. But we apologize to Dr.Dee for not being able to make it, because she will not be able to join us next week to help us solder. =( So we are very sorry, but luckily Mrs.P knows what to do and is going to help us solder. AHA!
Posted by Maggie Prevenas on Saturday, April 17, 2010,
We have found out what was wrong with the thruster! With our finest disecters Mickey and Janell they have found out what was wrong with the thruster. And it was the faulty wiring. But we have learned from this expierience and now know when we build our second seaperch we will double check the wiring. And now while they disected the thruster Sara, Alesha, Coleson, and Ms.Riddle worked on building the new thruster. And so next week Sara and Alesha will work on that while Caitlyn and Coleson supe... TEST OUT THE MOTORS!
Posted by Maggie Prevenas on Monday, April 12, 2010,
We tested the three motors after pouring the wax into the film canister, and letting it cool in the freezer. As we tested the first wire which was the orange and white. It didnt work. So we thought there might be a connection probalem or a malfunction. So we moved onto the next wires and tried those out. And SUCCESS! They worked! So we tried the orange and white wires, but still no progress. It didnt work. It could be a ton of reasons, it could be that wax was exposed to the wiring of some so... Continue reading ...
MELTING WAX!!!
Posted by Maggie Prevenas on Monday, April 12, 2010,
Janell and Sara melted toilet bowl wax by using a single portable stove top burner, 3 glass cups, water, a pot, and water. First we put an inch of water into the pot and set the pot onto the burner. Then cut little pieces of the wax and put it into the glass cups. And place the cups in the pot of hot water. And put some water in the other two jars to push up against the jar with wax, just to weigh it down.
To make the proscess more efficient we took an extra glass and put a couple extra piece... Continue reading ...

Posted by Maggie Prevenas on Wednesday, April 7, 2010,
We have science club this afternoon and we are planning to melt the toilet bowl ring wax onto seaperch and we have old visitors! My good friend Alesha is coming to science club today along with my old peers Persuasion and Jamielynn. They have done previous science projects with us and so they are coming today to see what we are up too. So we are really excited. Continue reading ...

April 5, 2010
Posted by Maggie Prevenas on Wednesday, April 7, 2010,
Okay on Monaday we didn't work on seaperch. In fact we did 3 science experiments. On turbitity, temperature, and Ph sampling. It is practice for when we go to Waihee beach in May to test out seaperch. But there is still a long way to go with seaperch and we will be melting wax onto seaperch tomorrow at our next meeting. Until then ta ta for now. Continue reading ...
Done soldering! For now
Posted by Maggie Prevenas on Sunday, April 4, 2010,
YAY! We have succesfully finished soldering and as you can see in the picture below, is the final creation of the wiring done by our smart technology engineers Coleson and Caitlyn. Now the next meeting we have on Monday April 5, 2010 is when we consoladate all of the parts onto seaperch. And hopefully during that time Sara, Mickey, and Janell can blog about what's going on. But until then...Happy Easter! Continue reading ...

Be Careful!
Posted by Maggie Prevenas on Sunday, April 4, 2010,
We have learned that when you are using dangerous materials/tools that you MUST BE CAREFUL! Coleson was soldering and accidently burned his finger, but we have learned from this expierience and know to use insulated gloves. So a rule of advise when using a dangerous tool of some sort. Be safe and be sure to protect yourself. Continue reading ...

What is seaperch?
Posted by Maggie Prevenas on Thursday, April 1, 2010,
Seaperch is an underwater robot that is powered by 3 motors and 1 battery. It can go places in the water that a human can't. But for this expieriment the robot will take a sample of water deep within the ocean. And our goal is for the robot to bring the water back to us uncontaminated. So far that is the biggest challenge. Once the robot collects the water we are going to measure the ph of the water, which is where the science comes in.
If you would like to know more about seaperch you can vi... Continue reading ...

Turns out it was on the microscope cart and the reason why we didn't see it was because it was covered with a table cloth. @.@ Silly us. Continue reading ...

Hi. We are a group of five Science Clubbers, and we have just started on a project called seaperch and for those of you who don't know what seaperch is. It is an underwater robot that is powered by three motors and one battery. You can learn more about seaperch as you follow our blog site, or you can go to seaperch.org and it tells you all about it.
But first I would like to tell you a little bit about the science club group.
First there is Mrs.Prevenas, she is a very smart and intellagent wo... Continue reading ...
